"Samsung has announced a mobile phone with a novel keypad layout and slide-out keyboard. The Verizon-branded SCH-i760 runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional and features both WiFi and Bluetooth.

The SCH-i760 is said to use Samsung's own ARM-based 2442 processor, clocked at 400 MHz, and backed by 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash memory. Software includes the usual Windows Mobile 6 suite, such as mobile editions of Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows Media Player. To these, however, Samsung has added voice command, remote control software for home electronics, and a file viewer from Picsel Technologies.

Samsung's SCH-i760 can be used in portrait or landscape modes

A 2.8-inch touchscreen display offers 240 x 320 pixel resolution and is usable in both portrait and landscape orientations, as the above photo shows. The top of the phone features a 4-way navigator, four application launcher keys, and a numeric keypad whose keys have a rakish 45-degree angle.

According to Samsung, the SCH-i760 includes CDMA 1900 MHz (PCS) and CDMA 800 MHz (1XRTT/EVDO) cellular capabilities. The company says the phone's WiFi (802.11b/g) implementation allows "seamless moves between your corporate WLAN, home WLAN, and local hot spots."

As for Bluetooth, Samsung touts an unusually wide range of functionality. The SCH-i760 is said to support more Bluetooth profiles than typical devices, including:
mono and stereo headset

handsfree

serial port

dial-up networking

object push

file transfer
